The Claresholm Solar project is a 132MWac solar photovoltaic power plant owned and operated by a joint venture between Obton A/S and Capstone Infrastructure Corporation.

Perimeter originated the Claresholm Project which we initiated with lease options signed between Perimeter Solar Inc., and the Hutterian Brethren of Granum. The project is located on 1,280ac of agricultural land in southern Alberta. In developing the project, Perimeter Solar worked closely with local stakeholders, including neighbours and the Municipal District of Willow Creek, in order to bring the project through a complex permitting process that involved rezoning of the project property. Perimeter was successful in their submission of an unopposed application to the Alberta Utilities Commission, a fact that highlights the collaborative approach taken by Perimeter as a project developer; unopposed infrastructure projects of this size are exceedingly rare. Combined with our careful selection of the project site, which avoided sensitive wildlife habitats and ecological communities, Perimeter’s efforts culminated in a clean project ready to be taken to the next steps of development.

Working closely with Ventum Real Asset Finance Ltd. (https://ventumfinance.com) and EDC Associates Ltd. (https://www.edcassociates.com), Perimeter was able to secure a PPA with TC Energy and secure project financing. This, combined with the subsequent efforts of Obton A/S and Capstone Infrastructure, allowed for the project to progress through construction to become the largest solar power plant in Canada. These achievements were made without subsidies of any kind.
